At last, there is a law in Nigeria that goes against domestic violence. Dear Nigerian men, if you need a visa-free to jail, all you need to do is beat your women.
According to Honorable Joke Orelope-Adefulire, the deputy governor of Lagos State, the domestic violence law is made to protect the interest of anyone who may be a victim of domestic violence, most especially the women who are a frequent target of domestic violence.
In case of domestic violence,
- The abuser will be removed from home depending when the abuse is corrected or
- The complainant is removed from home and placed in a protective home and
- financial assistant will be rendered by the state via the Office of the Public Defender/Legal Aid Council to the victim of abuse who may not be financially abled to seek redress in court.
- and the court may issue warrant of arrest and remand order for abusers.
