Integration minister of Italy, Cecile Kyenge, who happens to be the first black minister of Italy has been a target of racism in Italy since her appointment in April. While giving a speech at a party rally and campaigning to make it easier for immigrants to gain Italian citizenship on Friday, a spectator threw banana at her in protest against her proposal to make anyone born on Italian soil a citizen.
Although the banana missed the stage where Kyenge was speaking, that didn't stop her from responding to the gesture via Twitter; she called it sad and a waste of food. She wrote "With people dying of hunger and crisis, wasting food this way is so sad"
